Daniel Payne, a shareholder in Murphy & McGonigle’s Richmond office and a member of its leading FinTech & Blockchain Practice, has been named to the “Up & Coming Lawyers” list by Virginia Lawyers Weekly.
The publication’s “Up & Coming Lawyers” list recognizes lawyers across Virginia who are making their mark with their first 10 years of practice and who are viewed to be leaders in the profession in the future.
Mr. Payne’s practice focuses on serving financial services firms and public companies facing civil litigation and regulatory enforcement matters, as well as counseling clients on compliance with industry regulations. He advises companies of all stripes concerning the emergent regulatory structure surrounding cryptocurrencies and new applications built on blockchain technology. Such advice is critical with the number of companies launching Initial Coin Offerings and Security Token Offerings and facing enforcement actions and civil litigation.
He is the architect of Murphy & McGonigle’s Blockchain Litigation Database, an innovative tool for clients that brings cryptocurrency cases from different jurisdictions into a single, searchable location. Forbes, Bitcoin News, Bitcoinist, CoinGeek and Crowdfunder Insider, among others, have all covered the launch of the Blockchain Litigation Database, which contains hundreds of cases from this emerging technology.
“It is an honor to be recognized with such an impressive group of peers in the legal profession,” said Mr. Payne. “As a Virginia native who is practicing in the commonwealth, being selected to this prestigious list by Virginia Lawyers Weekly is even more meaningful to me.”
Mr. Payne was also instrumental in the development of the Blockchain Law Center, a website dedicated exclusively to the legal and regulatory developments in the application of blockchain technology. He is a frequent writer and blogger on the BLC.
Mr. Payne has been a regular speaker and panelist at blockchain events around the world, including Blockchain Expo Global, Blockchain Expo North America, CryptoEvolved and CryptoLex.
A native of Roanoke, Mr. Payne is a graduate of the College of William and Mary, and he earned his J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law.
The honorees for the “Up & Coming Lawyers” will be celebrated at a reception hosted by Virginia Lawyers Media on Tues., Oct. 22 at the John Marshall Hotel in Richmond.
